Designing a Farmhouse Kitchen That Lasts
August 18, 2026 · 5 min read

A kitchen is the room your family lives in, not just cooks in. When we start a farmhouse kitchen, the first conversation is never about cabinet color — it’s about how you actually move through the space on a Tuesday night.
Start with materials, not trends
Trends move fast; materials don’t. Natural stone, solid wood, unlacquered brass, and honest tile all improve with wear. Choose two or three materials and let them repeat throughout the room so the space feels collected rather than decorated.
Give every zone a job
Prep, cook, clean, and gather each deserve their own square footage. When zones overlap, the room feels chaotic no matter how beautiful the finishes are.
Let the details carry the character
Hardware, lighting, and trim profiles are where a kitchen earns its personality. They’re also the least expensive things to get exactly right — so spend your attention there.
